Policies

Vaccinations:
We believe in a holistic approach for the care and feeding of all animals that cross our path.
“One and Done” means as long as your pet (dog or cat) has been vaccinated once, either with a set of puppy shots, or after 1 year of age with Distemper and Rabies, or if you adopted your dog from a shelter, we do not require additional booster vaccinations in order to board, groom, or train your dog at Black Mesa Kennels. Keep in mind, however, that local laws may require a current rabies vaccination every 3 years.

We no longer require the Bordetella vaccination in order to board your dog, but if you want to vaccinate anyway, we do require that your animal receives the vaccination at least 30 days prior to boarding to allow the dog(s) to “shed” the virus before their stay at Black Mesa Kennels.

Reservations:
Persons making reservations for their pets are responsible for notifying the kennel of date changes and/or cancellations.  Failure to do this at least 48 hours prior to the pre-arranged dates will cause an additional charge of one night of boarding added to their next boarding fee.  If this should happen more than once, the pet owners will be required to pay half of their anticipated bill at the time the next reservation is booked.  Should the pet owners have to cancel after having paid half their bill in advance, this amount will be refunded, as long as the kennel was notified at least 48 hours prior to their scheduled booking.

The kennel is run in similar fashion to a hotel in that we have a check out time of 12:00 PM (10:00 AM on Sundays and Holidays).  Should the pet owners fail to pick up their pet by 12:00 PM (10:00 AM on Sundays and Holidays), there will be an additional night of boarding added.

Feeding:
We try to keep your pets as close to their feeding schedule at home as we can.  We require (there is no additional charge) that owners bring their own dog food, as food changes often result in tummy/digestive upset, which is no fun. We have plenty of refrigerator and freezer space for those feeding a raw diet at home (when bringing your own raw) and can feed a raw diet, for an additional charge based on the animals weight, to those animals who are already fed one at home.
*Additional charges apply for dogs eating kennel canned food.

If we are feeding two dogs in one run, they must either get along well when eating or be able to be separated, one inside the run and one outside.  If separated, it also follows that they must be fairly quick about cleaning up their bowls so that we can then re-open the run again in a reasonable length of time.

Medication:
Medication includes any type of pill and/or liquid drug or supplement that is administered to the dog either during or outside of normal feeding, cleaning routine.  There will be a per each charge of $2.00 for all supplementation or medications, with a per each charge of $3.00 for eye drops/eye ointments, thyroid medication, and insulin shots.

Any treatment that includes bandaging and or hot packing or soaking will have a per each charge of $5.00

Exercise:
We provide four walks for all dogs in the kennel every day, unless it is a special request.  We also conduct hands-on checks on each pet daily to look at them carefully and see that they are not having any problems. If we find that your pet’s toe nails are unusually long, we will trim them, at the owner’s expense.

Parasites:
If any pets are found to have fleas and/or ticks during their stay here, they will be bathed and sprayed with Buzz4bugs at the owner’s expense.

Emergencies:
If, at any time, there is a vet emergency and we cannot contact you (the owner), or anyone on your emergency contact list, we will take your pet to the vet designated in your file at the owner’s expense.

We, at Black Mesa Kennels, thank you for boarding with us. We hope that you will continue to do so in the future. Please feel free to call us during business hours with any further questions or comments you might have. May all your pets be happy and healthy.
