Reservations are not confirmed until the deposit is paid. If a deposit is not paid within 48 hours of the reservation approval, the reservation is subject to cancellation.
Deposits are non-refundable. However, if at least 72 hours (3 days) notice for cancellation is given prior to the scheduled check in date/time, the deposit amount will be credited towards future visits.
Changes to Reservation Dates
In order to modify a reservation, at least 72 hours (3 days) notice for changes prior to the scheduled drop off date/time must be given. Invoices are created upon check-in, so animals picked up earlier than scheduled will be charged for the full scheduled reservation, unless given 72 hours (3 days) notice prior to check-in.
Invoice links will be sent out prior to the scheduled check out date via SMS (text message) from 505-570-4770, using our Secure SSL system, to be paid prior to pick-up. If you prefer to receive the invoicing using email, please let us know prior to check in. If you prefer to pay in cash, please let us know prior to check-in.
We believe in using a holistic approach for the care of all animals that cross our path.
“One and Done” means as long as your pet (dog or cat) has been vaccinated once, either with a set of puppy shots, or after 1 year of age with Distemper and Rabies, or if you adopted your dog from a shelter, we do not require additional booster vaccinations in order to board or train your dog at Black Mesa Kennels. Keep in mind, however, that local laws may require a current rabies vaccination every 3 years.
We no longer require the Bordetella vaccination in order to board your dog, but if you want to vaccinate anyway, we do require that your animal receives the vaccination at least 30 days prior to boarding to allow the dog(s) to “shed” the virus before their stay at Black Mesa Kennels.

Once you’ve entered your desired boarding dates and care preferences for your pet(s) in our online booking app, we’ll be back in touch with you to confirm reservation details.
The kennel is run in a similar fashion as hotels, in that we have a check out time of 10:00 am. Should pet owners fail to pick-up their pet by 10:00 am, there will be an additional night’s fee added. We do not schedule appointments on Sundays.
We try to keep your pets on as close to their usual feeding schedule as when at home. We recommend that owners bring their own dog food, as food changes often result in tummy/digestive upset. We have plenty of refrigerator and freezer space for those who supply raw or homemade food for their pets.
We also offer the option of feeding your dog or cat our “house raw canine or feline meals” – for an additional charge, based on your pet’s weight, to animals who are already fed a similar diet at home.
If we are feeding two dogs in one run, they must either get along well when eating or be able to be separated, one inside the run and one in another run. If separated, it also follows that they must be fairly quick about eating their food, so that we can then re-open the run again in a reasonable length of time.
Medication includes any type of pill and/or liquid drug or supplement that is administered to the dog either during or outside of normal feeding. There will be a $2.00 per each charge for all supplementation or medications, and $3.00 per each for eye drops/eye ointments, thyroid medication, and insulin shots.
Any treatment that includes bandaging and or hot packing, or soaking will have a per each charge of $5.00.
We provide four opportunities for outside time for all dogs in the kennel every day, unless it is a special request. We also conduct hands-on checks on each pet daily to look at them carefully and see that they are not having any problems. We will trim dog’s nails if and only if they are willing participants in the process.
If any pets are found to have fleas and/or ticks during their stay here, they will be bathed and sprayed with Buzz4bugs at the owner’s expense.
If, at any time, there is a vet emergency and we cannot contact you (the owner), or anyone on your emergency contact list, we will take your pet to the vet designated in your file at the owner’s expense.
